Our Mission

As advocates for educational equity, the mission of the C.A.L.M. Society is to ensure that all students receive a superior education through parent involvement, parent advocacy, and community service.  In keeping with our motto "our future leaders start at home," C.A.L.M. is building a community of parents to ensure student success and social justice for all of the children in our schools and community.  C.A.L.M. seeks to maximize community empowerment through leadership development and in the education of our youth.  Our key activities strengthen Parent Involvement, Community Outreach, Education Achievement, Equal Rights for Children, Empowering Women, and Cultural competency.

CALM SOCIETY SCHOLARSHIPS

The CALM Society recognizes deserving students through scholarship support. 

(VOICES INVOKING A BROTHERHOOD OF EXCELLENCE)*

As parent volunteers, the CALM Society partners with the Abington School District to support V.I.B.E  (Voices Invoking a Brotherhood of Excellence Program).  V.I.B.E is a program offered at Abington Junior High School to encourage positive self-identity and to foster leadership development among young men.

The purpose of V.I.B.E is for young men to learn how to advocate for themselves in an academically challenging environment, and to help develop a positive voice within the school community.  

(I'M A GIRL INTELLIGENT, NOBEL AND EDUCATED)*

As parent volunteers, the CALM Society also partners with the Abington School District to support M.A.G.I.N.E (I’m A Girl, Intelligent, Noble, and Educated). I.M.A.G.I.N.E is a sister program to the AJHS V.I.B.E. (Voices Involved in promoting Black Excellence) group for boys.

The purpose of  I.M.A.G.I.N.E is to provide girls with a forum to self-advocate, improve self-image and to generally enrich their lives. We hope to assist them in embracing their talents and goals, as well as to address issues that may interfere with optimal success in the academic environment.
